An EPAL box pallet weighs 70 kg (154 lb) empty if it was made after 2011. Older boxes weigh 85 kg. The safe working load is 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) for boxes made after 1990 and 900 kg for older ones. When loaded boxes are stacked on a solid, even surface, the bottom box must not exceed a load of 6,000 kg (13,228 lb).

EPAL calls the box pallet the workhorse of the automotive industry. A steel lattice frame with hinged panels and four boards carries parts that are not repacked individually into production. It has a cargo space of 0.75 m³ and can be handled from four sides.
There is no single count: it depends on the unit's inner size, and the outer footprint of 1,240 × 835 mm is what counts. Enter that size in the container loading calculator to see how many fit.

Inside, a Gitterbox is 1,200 × 800 mm and the height is 970 mm. Outside it measures 1,240 × 835 mm, because the frame adds to the footprint. For floor space, the outer size counts.
